Our Services
The primary goal of the CAC is to ensure that children who have been victims of abuse receive the care, support, and services they need to heal and recover from their trauma.
-
Forensic Interview
The forensic interviewer at the Children’s Advocacy Center is a trained professional who conducts interviews with child abuse victims in a way that is legally sound and sensitive to the needs of the child. Our forensic interviewers are typically the first people to interview a child about allegations of abuse, and their role is critical in ensuring that the child's story is accurately and appropriately documented.
-
Therapeutic Family Advocacy
The therapeutic family advocates at the Children's Advocacy Center are professionals who work with families and child abuse victims to provide support, advocacy, and assistance as they navigate the legal and social service systems.
A therapeutic family advocate has specialized training in trauma-informed care, child development, and family systems. They work closely with families and child abuse victims to help them understand and cope with the trauma of abuse, while also connecting them to appropriate resources and services.
-
Trauma-Informed Therapeutic Care
A trauma-informed therapist at the Children’s Advocacy Center is a trained mental health professional who specializes in working with children who have experienced trauma. Trauma-informed therapy may involve a variety of techniques and approaches, including play therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, art therapy, and mindfulness practices. The therapist may also work with the child's family to develop strategies for coping with the effects of trauma.
-
Multidisciplinary Team Coordination and Case Review
Case review is an important component of the work done at the Children's Advocacy Center. It refers to the process by which multidisciplinary team members come together to review and discuss cases of child abuse and neglect that have been referred to the CAC. This coordination improves case outcomes, ensure collaboration, utilizes best practices, and keeps cases from falling through the cracks.
-
Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) and On-Site Medical Care
A SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) nurse is a highly trained healthcare professional who provides specialized medical care and forensic evidence collection to individuals who have experienced sexual assault or abuse. The SANE nurse performs a thorough medical examination of the child, which includes a physical assessment, evaluation of the child's injuries, and testing for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and documentation of forensic evidence and injuries. The Children’s Advocacy Center, Serving Bastrop, Lee and Fayette Counties is the only provider of this critical service, with 24-hour availability, in our rural community.
-
Community Outreach and Education
Community outreach is a critical component of the work done at the Children's Advocacy Center. It refers to the efforts made by CAC staff and volunteers to educate the community about child abuse and neglect, and to raise awareness of the services available at the CAC for child abuse victims and their families. Our Community Outreach team also offers specialized training to child-facing professionals, and educational opportunities for our partners in law enforcement.
