Make a Difference in the Life of a Child!

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Children's Advocacy Center serving Bastrop, Fayette and Lee counties. Since volunteers are a very important part of making the Center a success, we truly value your time and commitment. Your support of has an incredible impact on the lives of the children and families we serve.

Volunteer Opportunities:

Children's Advocacy Center volunteers need to be at least 18 years of age. Free training is provided to all volunteers and flexible schedules are available.

Family Partnersadd the personal touch by welcoming children and their non-offending family members and making them feel comfortable and at ease. When families come to the Center, Family Partners engage the children in quiet activities such as playing board games, coloring, reading, or watching a video.

At other times, Family Partners may offer support by answering the telephone, organizing our play therapy rooms, assembling family information packets, drafting news articles and press releases, or working with our victim advocates to contact families after their visit to answer any questions they might have about available community resources.

Event Angels help with our two major fundraising events each year, Cook-off on the Colorado (November) and Cowboys & Caviar (March), as well as special community projects for Child Abuse Prevention Month (April). Duties range from administrative and clerical support in the weeks leading up to the events to registration, food and beverage sales, auction support, kids' activities and more at the events themselves.

Christmas Angels are special volunteers who work with us each November and December to decorate the Center for the holidays, prepare for the annual Tree of Angels ceremony, and help with the gift wrapping and delivery of family and children's Wish List items donated by the community. It's a great way to get into the spirit of the season!

Crafty Angels can work at home or with friends to make projects like colorful children's "halos" of wire, ribbon, beads and artificial flowers that the Center sells at craft booths throughout the year. The Center provides all materials and instructions for craft projects.

Pam's Heart volunteers provide handmade quilts, blankets and pillows which we in turn give to each child that comes in for an interview, along with a healthy snack and a stuffed animal. These quilts provide comfort, warmth and protection!

Center Ambassadors represent the Center in the community by sharing information about our agency and child sexual abuse. Presentations are made to both small and large community groups and training is provided.

Breakfast Club volunteers provide breakfast for the once-a-month Child Protection Team meetings in La Grange and Giddings. The breakfast can range from tacos to egg casseroles, and any help is deeply appreciated.

Garden Angels maintain the Therapy Garden and Center grounds by watering the garden and pruning the Texas-native plants, shrubs and trees around the property.

Maintenance Angels help us with repairs around the child-friendly Center, a Victorian-era house full of charm and character. Like all older houses, it needs upkeep, which may include light construction, plumbing etc.

Service Learners/Interns are students from local colleges and universities and community members who need to obtain volunteer service hours, and are introduced to the many facets of the Child Protection Team. Participants actively develop their experience based upon their interests as well as the Center's needs.

All volunteers need to interview, consent to a criminal background check, and give three letters of reference. For more information on volunteering or for the date of the next orientation, contact Jennifer Warwick, Volunteer Coordinator, at 512.321.6161.
