Two bears hugging

Each year, hundreds of children come to the Center because of reported sexual or physical abuse, or because they witnessed a violent crime. Children make the “perfect” victims as they are easily manipulated by adults. Younger children do not understand sex and older children are often too embarrassed or frightened to disclose actual events. Studies show that 1 in 6 boys and 1 in 4 girls will suffer from some form of abuse before the age of 18. Only 1 in 10 will ever make an outcry.

To make a report of suspected child abuse, call the Texas Abuse Hotline at 1-800-252-5400. You can also report online at If you feel the child is in immediate danger, contact your local law enforcement by calling 911.
